Celebrating Dineen Vineyard’s Commitment to Sustainability
We recently traveled to the Yakima Valley to check in on our grapes at Dineen Vineyards. The clusters are forming on the vines above and getting ready to flower.
Dineen recently announced that it is not only Sustainable WA certified but also officially Salmon Safe! Its commitment to sustainability now includes water quality protection, wildlife habitat conservation, and climate resiliency.
Here are just some of the things they do to benefit their land, their neighbors, and the planet (sourced from their website):
Fruit Quality: They aim to produce the best quality of fruit possible because they care about their farm, the grapes & their customers.
Soil conservation: Healthier soils will produce better-quality grapes and, therefore, better wine. They improve their soil by natural methods, such as planting cover crops and composting. They aim to reduce the use of herbicides and avoid synthetic fertilizers.
Water Conservation: They regularly monitor soil moisture, the plants, and the weather and irrigate the vines only when needed. They also ensure that run-off doesn’t create issues for the surrounding community.
Vineyard Management: They continually improve farming practices to make them more environmentally sound, socially just, and economically viable (for example, reducing tractor passes.)
Safe Pest Management: They monitor block by block to catch issues before they have a chance to progress and utilize integrated pest management to encourage natural predators.
Social Equity: They consider quality of life issues for their team and neighbors in the community. This is one of the most important aspects of sustainability for their operation. They have a great team, and they provide them with a safe and fun work environment. They are proud to have continuity of their people from year to year!
We’re proud to source our 2023 and 2024 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2024 Cabernet Franc from this outstanding vineyard!
