2022 CARMENÈRE + FlANK STEAK WITH CHIMICHURRI SAUCE

Gertie is waiting for her moment!

2022 CARMENÈRE | COLUMBIA VALLEY

Carmenère, a grape often compared to Merlot and Cabernet Franc, is originally from the Bordeaux region of France. It is now mainly grown in Chile, but a tiny sliver of Carmenère is also grown in Washington State. Our 100% Carmenère wine comes from Heart of the Hill Vineyard (Kiona) on Red Mountain and Weinbau Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope and is made from Sustainable WA-certified grapes.

FUN FACT: The Carmenère grape was believed to be extinct for nearly a century. It was only through DNA analysis that Chilean vines, previously thought to be Merlot, were identified as Carmenère. Vive Carmenère!

This wine has been aged in a mix of new and neutral American oak barrels, imparting subtle notes of vanilla and coconut. On the nose, you’ll find herbaceous green peppercorn, raspberry sauce, and sour cherry, complemented by a hint of chocolate and a touch of minerality.

Enjoy rich dark red and blackberry flavors on the palate with medium tannins and lively acidity—tobacco, plum, and tart raspberry notes offer a complex yet approachable experience.

Food Pairing Suggestion - This Carmenère is versatile with food. We paired it with a Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce. This Argentinian-style chimichurri sauce matches our 2022 Carmenère's herbaceous character and lively acid, while the rich beef softens the tannins. Check out the recipe and let us know if you agree!
