Checking in with Heron Bluff Vineyard
Heron Bluff Vineyard, owned by Eric and Leslie Hoppe, is perched on a picturesque bluff near the Yakima River, west of Benton City, WA. We first visited this vineyard in 2022 to check on the grapes for our first Grenache. During our visit, we had an engaging conversation with Eric, a retired chemist with a deep understanding of soil chemistry, about the unique soils and slopes in the vineyard, and grape-growing techniques.
The vineyard, first planted in 2016, boasts a variety of grape varietals, including the exceptional Grenache we proudly use. The property is teeming with wildlife, including herons, owls, and badgers, which play a vital role in maintaining the vineyard’s ecosystem by keeping rodents at bay. This natural harmony adds to the vineyard’s charm and uniqueness.
We are excited to continue to source Grenache from Heron Bluff in 2024 and are looking forward to making wine from these grapes in the fall!
